Description of PositionHIRING RANGE: $14.00 - $17.00This is a grant funded position, contingent upon annual grant renewal. Please include 3 professional references with your application materials.Reporting directly to the Talent Search Program Manager, the Talent Search Instructor/Counselor is responsible for group and individual academic and career counseling workshops with middle school and high school program participants. The primary purpose of Educational Talent Search is to promote educational equity among low income and first generation students through the completion of a high school diploma or GED and matriculation into postsecondary education programs. The incumbent works closely with target school counselors and support staff to identify eligible students and coordinate project activities. Other responsibilities include developing workshop materials, maintaining records of all sessions and student contacts, coordinating college visitations and cultural field trips around the state, and conducting participant follow-up surveys for federal reporting requirements.Minimum Expectations & Requirements* A Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, counseling or a related field* A minimum of two years' experience working with students in education or social service programs that assist a diverse middle school/high school population* Valid Fingerprint Clearance (or ability to obtain)* Excellent oral and written communications and the ability to interact with a variety of constituents which includes students, parents, faculty and administration at various target schools* Ability to work independently in assigned target schools in Yavapai County and provide direct instructional services to students on a daily basis* Ability to make presentations to students, teachers and parents to publicize the program in the target schools and to recruit, serve and retain participants while meeting program objectivesAbility to collaborate and form strong working partnerships with college staff, students, parents, schools, and community members* Travel is required to a variety of target schools on a consistent basis* Strong planning and organizational skillsComputer literacy, including experience with PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel and other Microsoft Office productsPreferred Skills & Abilities* Master's degree in education, psychology, social work or a related field and/or current Arizona secondary teaching certificate* Previous work experience in a federal TRiO program or other grant program* Knowledge of career counseling, college admissions requirements and financial aid application process for post-secondary education* Bilingual in Spanish* Experience with and sensitivity to the issues facing low-income and first generation students and their families in overcoming barriers to post-secondary educationEssential FunctionsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
