Description of Position

  • 2 Positions available - 1 position in Prescott and 1 position in the Verde Valley*

The Yavapai County Learn and Earn (YCLEA) Mentor will assist in the oversight of a summer youth employment and training program for teens. The Mentor will help to supervise 7-10 youth over the course of 7 weeks during the summer, as an assistant to the YCLEA Coordinator. Oversight of this program will be conducted by Yavapai County Juvenile Probation Community Restitution Coordinator as well as the Yavapai College Campus Police Department and Staff.

The Mentor will chaperone field trips, help to organize and oversee independent internship sites for each youth, implement instructional materials in pertinent areas of life skills, write reports, implement curriculum, drive a 15-passenger van, mentor and directly supervise youth, conduct employment interviews of youth, assist in classroom management and instruction, communicate with probation and Yavapai College staff, work with community representatives and leaders and assist the YCLEA Coordinator in planning the parent orientation night and graduation ceremony. Minimum Expectations & Requirements

  • Pre-employment background screening, fingerprinting and polygraph test.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Regular attendance is an essential job function as it demonstrates dependability towards performance of duties and consistency in the role with youth.
  • High school diploma or GED

Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Prior teaching experience in a classroom setting.
  • Minimum of one-year experience working with youth.
