General Position Summary: The Speech Therapist is responsible for
providing speech and language therapy to individuals with special
language and oral needs. This position reports directly to the
Physical Therapy Director. The SLP may work closely with
Radiologist when performing video fluorographic swallow study
(VFSS). This job description in no way includes all the duties to
be performed by the employee occupying the position. Employees will
be required to follow any other job related instructions and to
perform all other job duties requested by supervisor. Essential
Functions / Major Responsibilities: · Screen and evaluate
patient/clients with language difficulties or delayed development
including articulation, language, voice, fluency, resonance,
cognition and feeding/swallowing. · Provide speech and language
services in accordance with the patient’s care plan. · Participate
as part of the multi-disciplinary team in reviewing qualifications
of patients and their needs for services associated with speech and
language needs. · Prepare activities and exercises for patient in
accordance with their plans and in conjunction with other
healthcare providers. · Prepare all local, state, and federal
reports associated with any patient referrals or status reports. ·
Act as a resource on speech and language issues for other
healthcare providers, family members, community, etc. · Perform
video fluorographic swallow study (VFSS) or other appropriate
testing within the scope of practice. Secondary Functions: ·
Participates in departmental and hospitalwide informational
meetings and inservices, including staff meetings, hospitalwide
forums, and seminars. · Reviews department and hospitalwide
policies and procedures annually. · All other duties as assigned.
Additional / Seasonal Responsibilities: · None Job Scope: This job
involves: · Regular and recurring work situations. · A low to
moderate level of complexity. · Operation from specific and
definite directions and procedures. · Performance of duties under
moderately high supervision. Supervisory Responsibility: · May
supervision therapy technicians per Arizona Practice Act.
Interpersonal Contacts: Contacts: · Are normally made within the
hospital. · Are usually made with own department, staff, and
supervisor. · Contain some discussion about confidential/sensitive
matters. · Are face-to-face with little telephone contact. · Are
usually with patients, with some physician contact. · Are normally
made with others both inside and outside the hospital. Specific Job
Skills & Mental Activities: This position requires the knowledge,
skills, and clinical experience to perform in a diversified acute
care setting. This position also requires knowledge of hospital
equipment and programs, including all Hospital Information Systems
and department specific equipment. This position also requires
basic computer, communication, critical thinking, problem solving,
and interpersonal skills. Must be able to read, write, speak, and
understand English. Education and/or Experience: · Bachelor’s
Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in
Speech/Language Therapy (required). · Two to Four Years experience
with severely and multiple disable patients (required). · Licensed
in the state of Arizona. · Master’s Degree with necessary
Certificates to meet Arizona State requirement (Preferred) · High
School diploma or equivalent (required). · Current CPR/BLS
certification (required). Physical Demands & Job Conditions: Medium
work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 20
pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force
constantly to move objects. This is a safety sensitive position
OSHA Exposure Category: OSHA Exposure Category 2 Involves no
regular exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but may require
unplanned tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or
tissues.
