Job Description Job Description Description: MEDICAL ASSISTING INSTRUCTOR JOB SUMMARY The Medical Assisting Instructor provides enthusiastic and engaging instruction in the field of Medical Assisting to develop individuals’ skills and competencies by delivering the prescribed curriculum enabling the graduate to be employed as an entry-level Medical Assistant with Comprehensive Community Health Centers. Our Medical Assistant Instructor employs the latest principles of adult learning to deliver classroom instruction using advanced technology and multimedia to provide training to the non-profit FQHC healthcare workforce. Our candidate is responsible for delivering in-person classroom instruction for our Medical Assisting course; to include lectures, hands on clinical lab skills, assessments and examinations. This position will provide a fully prepared curriculum that meets desired learning outcomes, academic advising and career related counseling to students, actively engage in retention activities, and provide support for program and institutional initiatives. MEDICAL ASSISTING INSTRUCTOR ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide extensive orientation of incoming students on goals and requirements of the courses, the occupation, and the requirements of the industry. Lecture students daily in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, medical specialties, techniques and procedures, and computer software applications. Prepare curriculum provided by the Program Director assisting with revisions in materials updating program syllabi, lecture, lab exercises/tests, and updates in instructional materials. Post and submit student grades in a timely manner Provide group/individual student advising in regular intervals and on an as needed basis in academic issues and behavioral issues. Participates in program and student outcomes assessment. Utilizes technology and equipment as appropriate Utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate diverse learning styles of students. Monitor and evaluate the student's work against stated learning outcomes, and work with the students so that a full achievement level is attained. Determine and record academic progress being attained for each student. Evaluate all assignments and tests, using scores and comments, as quickly as possible. Comments to the students should be phrased in a positive, constructive manner, highlighting both strengths and areas for improvement. Consistently evaluate student performance and turn in grade reports to Program Director as directed. Actively work to maintain retention in all classes taught, by maintaining accurate attendance records daily, calling all students who are absent, and recording absentee information in roster after each week and communicating professionalism, attendance, and academic concerns & challenges to the Program Director. Support with (when required or needed due to staffing shortages) MA skill assessments, new MA training and any remedial MA training needed The person occupying this position shall maintain their knowledge by completing continuing education courses in his or her subject area, classroom management or other courses related to teaching. Complete other administrative tasks and duties as needed, and/or assigned in registration, marketing and outreach, financial, student services and other areas where assistance is needed. Requirements: MEDICAL ASSISTING INSTRUCTOR EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE? • Candidate must be fluent in Spanish - speaking, reading and writing • Associate's degree in Medical Assisting or related health care field preferred • Must be a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant?(CCMA) • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) Certification through NHA or AAMA preferred • Minimum 5 years of experience in clinical Medical Assisting or related health care field • Previous teaching experience at an institute of higher education • Current or Active BLS for Healthcare Providers (CPR) Certification • Previous experience with online Learning Management System (Moodle, Canvas, etc.) MEDICAL ASSISTING INSTRUCTOR PAY RATE: $27/hr MEDICAL ASSISTING INSTRUCTOR SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday (8:00am to 5:00pm) MEDICAL ASSISTING INSTRUCTOR KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills • Good computer skills and willingness to work and learn new computer technologies to integrate in both the classroom and workplace • Verifiable knowledge of curricular content for the education of the Medical Assistant • Demonstrated skill working with a diverse population • Ability to communicate clearly to multiple diverse groups to include administration, stakeholders, employees, and students • Knowledge of student assessment • Knowledge of generally accepted record maintenance protocols and polices • The person occupying this position shall demonstrate that they have the expertise to ensure the achievement of the institution's mission and objectives and the operation of the educational programs. • Responsible for adhering to all laws, policies, procedures, rules and regulations that govern and affect the College. • Ability to find solutions when barriers are identified. • Strong documentation skills. • Ability to multi-task and prioritize when needed. • Ability to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively. • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions. • Experience and work ethics that support working within a high functioning, team-oriented environment. • Demonstrates a willingness and ability to work under supervision. • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with staff. • Ability to use computers and learn new software programs. • Excellent interpersonal skills reflecting clarity and diplomacy and the ability to communicate accurately and effectively with all levels of staff and management. • Demonstrates ability to work in a regulatory climate that includes oversight of state and federal entities, payer contracts etc. • Possesses ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. • Possesses genuine respect for others and acceptance of their individual social and cultural traits. • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Outlook. • Able to travel and attend professional meetings, conferences, training and clinic sites. • Demonstrate flexibility, enthusiasm, and willingness to cooperate while working with others in multi-disciplinary teams. • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with others • Ability to be highly organized. • Ability to work independently. • Ability to speak effectively with vendors as well as employees. • Ability to create and prepare reports. • Must have analytical and problem-solving abilities. • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and functions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively. • Ability to present information in an easily understandable manner. • Ability to organize and prioritize work with minimum supervision. • Proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft Excel, Power Point and Word. • Flexible and able to multi-task; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems • Performs other related duties as assigned. MEDICAL ASSISTING INSTRUCTOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS? Position requires prolonged sitting at a computer, some bending, lifting, stooping, and stretching. Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard, photocopy machine, telephone, and other office equipment is also required.
