Orientation: Every Monday Shift & Scheduling: 12 hr Nights from
1800-0630 Modified self-scheduling is available; blocking schedules
preferred. Weekend Requirement: Minimum 3 weekend shifts per 4-week
schedule. Floating Requirement: May float to ED or MS if
experienced. Number of beds: 12 beds Ratios typically 1:2 2 years
of ICU experience is required. Respiratory Therapist is available
in the unit 24/7. Support staff includes Patient Care Technicians
and Health Unit Secretaries. Nurse manager occasionally sees
patients when needed. Common cases include left heart caths,
coronary interventions, STEMIs, IVUS, IFR/FFR, and temporary
pacemaker insertion. Type of equipment utilized includes GE floor
mounted C-Arm and Table, Volcano System, and Change Healthcare
Cardiology Hemo System. No open heart or neuro surgery; no fresh
transplants (may have patients with a history of transplant).
Common cases include pneumonia, ventilation support, post-cath
care, EVAR, surgeries, ETOH/OD, ARDS, DKA, CVA after tPA, afib RVR,
sepsis, and renal failure. Common drips include Amiodarone,
Cardizem, Levophed, Precedex, Propofol, Fentanyl, Vecuronium,
Dopamine, Dobutamine, Lasix, Insulin, Heparin, and Norepinephrine.
The number of ventilated patients varies monthly, typically 1-2 at
all times. House Supervisor is in-house 24/7. Holiday requirements
are usually applicable from May to September and November to
January. No on-call requirements stated. Most extension approvals
are granted; usually 3-4 weeks is the best response time.
